Apple kicks off annual Back to School promotion (Macworld.com via Yahoo! News)

When I was a kid, back-to-school shopping took place towards the end of August, and mainly consisted of buying pencils, notebooks, and folders for my Transformers Trapper Keeper. But for kids today, not only does back-to-school shopping start at the end of May (when for many school’s not even over yet), but they’re shopping for laptops and iPods.

Rare 1897 American flag found after recent fire in a Milwaukee public school (WHO-TV 13 Des Moines)

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A recent fire in a Milwaukee public school that dates back to 1894 resulted in an unusual find — an American flag left in an unused attic area for more than 100 years. District officials said the flag is from 1897 and has just 45 stars, representing the number of states at that time.
